We all most have our personal preferences, mine is usually Nero audio for aac or using BeSweet for a mp3 track, but regarding FAAC versus AAC(libav) I have no idea qualitywise which one is preferential for the user and in performance terms too, so hesitate to use either audio option., Hence I usually make my track an externally done one(normalized etc) and muxed into the source prior encoding.

Nero is not included in Vidcoder(Handbrake GUI) audio options, because of licensing issues as we know, but how does FAAC square up to the other offered option AAC(libav) in users' opinion I wonder? Thanks.

From what I remember the libav version of AAC was being improved but FAAC is better for now. Things are a bit different in the beta but I think you want to use avcodec there.
