Size of MKV's after burn from DVD

If I burn a movie using vidcoder into mkv using the same settings each time, the resulting movies will be anywhere between 900mb and 2.5gb. The quality is great, but I regularly see mkv movies around the 400-500mb mark that are just as good quality. Is there any way to trim the size in the settings?

Increase the RF target to accept a lower quality. It will still look pretty good but will result in smaller files. Also make sure the audio is compressed and there's only one track. You can also change the x264 preset to do a slower encode that will get a smaller file.

Great thanks, I'll try that out.
