Vidcoder FAILS but the VIDCODERWORKER still runs

Encodes get status "Failed" but for the first entry in the queue the Vidcoderworker.exe keeps running and creates the required encoded file. After this all files in the queue fail. No other encoded will be created after that.

This issues exists with DVD's and videofiles. Tested with version 1.4.10.x64

Can you post an encode log?

TPWildebeest wrote Dec 11, 2012 at 6:32 AM

2 different log files.

1 fails on DVD, other on videofile

Thanks. Sadly I can't seem to reproduce this problem so I'm going to have a difficult time fixing it. What kind of CPU do you have? I wonder the issue is related to that.

TPWildebeest wrote Dec 17, 2012 at 8:21 PM

I never had this issue with vidcoder 1.3.
If I am not mistaken it started with version 1.4.x (incl version 11)
I also tried to do files with the same issue with handbrake. That works.
Maybe it not a handbrake issue.

I have an older Intel Core2Duo E8400, with 8GB RAM, Win7(x64) fully updated. (its an older DELL Optiplex 760)

I'll include a log made with the latest release.
I'll try it with small files. To see if the issue also occurs.
Maybe i'll be able to upload these files.

Yeah I don't think it's a handbrake issue either. In the 1.4 betas I moved the encoding out into its own worker process and I think something is happening to break the inter-process communication. I'll try to add more diagnostics in later versions so I can figure out what's going on.

One more question for you... if you go to task manager and change the priority on VidCoderWorker.exe from Below Normal to Normal, do you still get the crashes?

I have a theory about why it might not be responding to pings...

TPWildebeest wrote Dec 19, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Normal or BelowNormal makes no difference

TPWildebeest wrote Dec 20, 2012 at 12:19 PM

I have noticed that the errors occurs (time-wise) when the encode switched form the first pass to 2nd pass.
File creation starts, etc...

RandomEngy wrote Jan 1, 2013 at 10:27 PM

I didn't see a problem with 2-pass encoding when I tried but I made a few changes in 1.4.12 that may help. The worker process is a higher priority and I increased the ping timeouts to the worker process. I also added more logging to the scenarios you're running into.

Version seems stable now.
No failures in 2 days.
In the previous beta-release 9 out of 10 recodes results in a failure.

Thanks you very much for all your effort.
This issue seems to be resolved.

TPWildebeest wrote Jan 5, 2013 at 11:55 AM

Still no failures, but I do have noticed that probably changing the priority that running vidcoder running in the background while also using other applications. Makes the other applications less responsive compares to previous versions.

Unfortunately encodes failed today.
I submitted a new the log file.
