Avcodec garbles audio that has reverb.

Handbrake has this problem too. This has been happening since avcodec was introduced, in all versions of HandBrake & VidCoder with it. Here's the encode log, and encoded sample, & original. With VidCoder & HandBrake going to avcodec as the standard over FAAC, hopefully this can be fixed soon. The AAC (FDK) and the HE-AAC do not have this problem, nor does FAAC. I recognize this is a HandBrake problem, and I'll contact them too.

Just experienced this aswell, did you report it to handbrake yet? I searched but couldn't see it.

No, I didn't report this to handbrake. Their reporting requirements are too complicated.

This has been fixed by a guy working on the psymodel of the original code for ffmpeg's aac encoder, in August, 2010, if that's libavcodec. These 2 links indicate the scope of his work, and the dates & revision numbers of that code. The samples shown in one of the pages have a player that demonstrates the same artifacts as in my samples posted here, and an example of it coded with these patches, which is quite clear. How does one check the Handbrake code repository to see if these patches have been committed to their code?

You could ask on the HandBrake IRC channel. The people who would be able to answer don't hang out here.
