Restart required to change options

description

I get caught occasionally when changing an option such as <tools| options| file naming| output to the source directory if possible> and <tools| options| audio/subtitles| automatic subtitle selection| disabled/enabled>.

It seems that it is necessary to restart VC in order to achieve the desired result. This is a major nuisance if a queue is being processed and one forgets to restart before proceeding. Can you make it so that these types of settings are changed without needing a restart?

"Output to source directory" seems to apply immediately for me; I don't need to restart. Are you using the Beta? The automatic subtitle selection also appears to be working without a restart. If it has automatically selected a subtitle and you disable it and re-scan the same source it might retain that subtitle, but if you remove it, it won't come back again on the next scan.

I am using the Beta on an i7 Win 8.0 64 bit Asus.

I think the problem arises when I don't go to the tools menu before selecting a file/files. Selecting those options after files are in the list does not update the settings on my machine.

There are no buttons for output location or subtitle options so it is not necessarily at the front of my mind to dig down in the tools menu before starting a job. Maybe you could bring these setup items out to the GUI in a future release?

They're for automatically selecting certain items on every source load. If you want to affect the current source only, then just edit them right there. I might be able to do some fancy stuff like applying those preferences to a currently loaded source when they're changed. Though I'd need to be careful about overwriting someone's specific choices...

Thought about it some more and this would be too troublesome to implement. I'd have to detect whether or not a setting related to choosing inputs was changed, which means tracking every setting related to that, and also tracking whether or not someone had manually changed an input setting. I'm fine leaving it as an option that automatically chooses inputs when you load a source.
