Crashing when dragging lots of files into VidCoder Portable 1.5.31 x64

I sort of touched on this on my previous topic:

It is still an issue, i can now recreate the crash every time by dragging 28, 2-1.5gb 720p tv episodes into the program at once, it starts processing them and crashes towards the end (maybe a memory buffering problem?)

If i drag the same files in but in two batches of 14, the crashing doesn't happen.

It's a quite annoying bug as i lose the current encode when dragging in new batches.

Are there any error log files i can share?

I wonder if this could be related to total path length?

DarkflameQ wrote Feb 20, 2015 at 10:17 AM

Could be, i'll shorten the file names and try again later.

It wasn't the file name lengths.

It's a very strange bug, i've just dragged in 102, 2.5gb files and it didn't crash, thus it must be to do with some types of videos.

It's the total path that counts not just the filename. so if you have 2 files, a.ts and b.ts in C:/videos/ the total path length will be something like.

There is a limit on the total path length but VC might already be coded to deal with that. If you shortened the filenames, used the same amount of files from the same folder path and it still crashed then it's not path length related.

A while ago I remember when I was ecoding a lot of mpg files VC would crash if I tried to add too many, IIRC if I added one to the queue and then the rest it would crash less often, but I still had to limit the amount I added.

In theory if it doesn't crash when adding the files individually it should have a problem when you add them in a batch.

RandomEngy probably needs to be able to reproduce this to have a chance of finding the cause.

I'm aware, i shorted the entire path.

I guess this is one bug that won't be fixed any time soon, some other guys been suffering from it for a while as it appears to very hard to reproduce.

However you would think the program would have crash logs...

Add another with freezing of program when trying to add bulk DVD folders if I do them in small groups they seem to all get added to cue. If I do them in bulk it stops and does not proceed adding movies.

Give this a try on Beta 2.2. We no longer keep around all of the scans of the files we've queued up, so it might work better now.
