QSV failing

Hi, have been happily using 1.5.31 but reinstalled windows and QSV stopped working with the latest drivers installed. So time to try the beta. That got QSV working again but it fails on some source files, handbrake is able to encode them so here I am.

After clicking start it just hangs a 0% progress and there's no GPU/CPU usage. When I click stop it doesn't end and I have to go into task manager, end the worker process then click stop.

Log file

Also I don't know why but with QSV encodeing vidcoder is much faster than handbrake 146AVG FPS vs 96AVG FPS. I notice despite GPU usage being the same the CPU usage is higher in handbrake maybe that's why. Hopefully vidcoder can maintain that speed advantage anyway.

P.S. love the beta. the increased log window open speed is welcome and the collapsible panel on the Preset window is brilliant, would be good to also have it on the main window too, I'm finding myself leaving the Preset window open now because it's quicker and easyer to switch presets than use the dropdown on the main window.

I don't say it enough but thank you for all your work on vidcoer :)

Thanks glad you appreciate the work! I will look at this when I get a chance to. Was in the middle of some serious refactoring and then I smashed my elbow and now it's hard to type.

If you can also supply the source files and encoding preset you used, that would be helpful.

Sorry to hear that mate, broke my hand a few years ago so feel your pain. Get well soon.

I'll see if I can trim the source down and get a sample uploaded.

Hey, I'm working on things again but I tried a few times and I can't download that file.

Hi, good to see you back I hope you have recovered and are well.

Strange, that's a direct link, it should just start downloading straight away. Do you get any error message? Is there anywhere else you'd prefer I upload it to?

Just tried again and was able to download it. Will investigate when I get some time.

Okay I did repro the problem but it also occurred on the latest HandBrake Nightly. You could report this to the HandBrake people and they might fix it.

Croftie wrote Nov 14, 2015 at 10:01 PM

Okay but to be fair, when I reported this 3 months ago the latest HB nightly didn't have this problem and I've been using that ever since.

That's fine. Just letting you know there's nothing I can do about the issue.

Yep, just didn't want you to think I hadn't done my homework before posting here. It's been so long you may of forgotten the details ;)
